R
OYALS PLAYER DEVELOPMENT P
ROGRAM (RPDP)

 Program Overview

The new U9 & U10 Royals Player Development Program (RPDP) is going to launch for the 2006-2007 season.  Our goal is to enhance player development through the creation of a learning environment for U9 & U10 players under the guidance of our qualified staff.

The RPDP program will roster all players who are interested in joining the program.  The RPDP will field as many teams in each age group that we can given the number of players who attend the tryout process.  Each team will have 10 players. Each team will be balanced in their selection.

Basic Objectives

  • Encourage an enthusiastic passion for the game of soccer
  • Help boys & girls develop into skillful, knowledgeable, and effective soccer players.
  • Provide all players with realistic challenges and an appropriate level of competition and commitment.
  • Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, respect for others, self-discipline, good work habits, and healthy fun competition.

OUR STAFF

The RPDP program for U9 & U10 Boys and Girls will be under the guidance of Daniel Paschedag. Coach Paschedag will oversee the staff coaches assigned to each group of players.  Staff coaches will be responsible for planning training sessions and game management duties at all games/tournaments.

Team Composition

U9 & U10 RPDP program intends on providing all soccer players with the opportunity to develop.  Our goal is to group the players so that they will face realistic challenges and provide an avenue to succeed given their best efforts.

Teams will be “balanced” in terms of ability because player are at a very early stage of development.

Commitment

RPDP program players are expected to make a strong commitment to soccer.

The commitment includes Fall, Winter and Spring.

Flexible arrangements can be made to accommodate players who play another sport.

This level of commitment is necessary to enable our players to enjoy competition against other travel programs in the Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky area.

The team will begin regular practice in July.  Tournament play will begin in August.  The goal of the program will be that each team competes in tournaments and/or games two weekends per month.  The team will continue to practice and compete during the winter in INDOOR SOCCER practice and tournaments.

Soccer Season Begins                  July 2006-05-14

Soccer Season Ends                    May 2007

(Try-outs for the following year’s team will occur in May/June 2007)

*If you have a schedule conflict (holidays) during tryouts, or you foresee a problem in the month of July due to a schedule conflict, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make alternate arrangements.

Practices

All players are expected to attend at least two training sessions per week. Participating in practice is just as, if not more important as participating in games, this is where the skills are learned and developed.

Games & Tournaments

RPDP program players should, except for exceptional circumstances, participate in all league games/tournaments in the fall, winter and spring.

Each team in the RPDP program should expect to participate in two tournaments/events per month.

Playing Time

All players should play, on average at least 1/3 of every game.

Although circumstances may result in a player playing less in a particular game, no player should consistently play less than this amount.

Players who miss a significant amount of practice time or who demonstrate inappropriate behavior in training or matches may play less at the discretion of the coach.

Positions

All players should expect to play in a variety of positions during the season.

All players should experience playing goalkeeper for at least a small amount of time.

No player will  play exclusively as goalkeeper.

Playing a variety of positions develops well rounded players who understand the responsibilities with and the importance of all positions on the field.

Playing Style

The trainers/coach will be teaching players to play controlled skillful soccer.

Players will be encouraged to control the ball, dribbling skillfully and pass the ball.

The trainers/coach will be teaching the players to play their positions and maintain good spacing on the field

Good controlled play will be encouraged even in circumstances where a “kick and run” approach may seem to increase the team’s chances of winning.

Coaches will encourage players to compete to play hard and fair and to accept physical contact as part of the game.

Winning

Winning is not the primary goal of the RPDP program.  The goal is to develop skill soccer players who will be successful (long term),  and enjoy playing for many years.

Teams should always try hard to win, if the players put their best effort forward, did their best to play the way their coach/trainers has taught them to play and displayed good sportsmanship, then they have had a successful game, regardless of the final score.

Children learn best and have the most fun when they are challenged, but without the pressure of results.  The challenge is for the team to play hard, score goals and play good soccer---winning will come with time.

Excessive focus by parents on results actually inhibits the player development and can cause players to burn out on soccer.

Coaching Style

All coaches will be enthusiastic, encouraging and positive during practices and games.

Coaches will demonstrate the highest standards of sportsmanship at all times.
